Analysis of different ultraviolet bands

Recently, experiments by foreign research institutions have confirmed that 222nm wavelength UVC is sterile and harmless to the skin, and 222nm has become a hot spot of media reports and market attention. This scene also appeared at the beginning of the year, but at that time everyone was looking for 254nm UVC LED. There are two main reasons for this phenomenon, one is that the UV sterilization market is too hot, all industries have poured in, and the other is that UVC LED is in the initial stage of development, and market awareness is not enough.

We are familiar with the ultraviolet sterilization band 254nm, 275nm, 222nm, 405nm, in order to let friends better understand these bands, today we talk about this topic.

254NM
This band is commonly seen in ultraviolet mercury lamps, which use low-pressure mercury vapor to radiate ultraviolet rays during the discharge process, and low-pressure mercury vapor mainly produces 254nm and 185nm ultraviolet rays. The characteristic wavelength of mercury lamps for sterilization is 253.7nm, and its radiation power reaches the order of watts (W). It has a wide range of applications in large space environments and has good sterilization effect.

Ultraviolet mercury lamps have been considered the best choice for disinfection and sterilization in the past, including most of the germicidal lamps on the market today are still 254nm mercury lamps. However, compared with ultraviolet LED lamps, mercury lamps have large size, high energy consumption, long preheating time, mercury and other weaknesses, under the influence of the international Minamata Convention, will exit the historical stage in a short period of time, and the future deep ultraviolet LED will have a huge application space.

275NM
Deep ultraviolet LED is different from mercury lamp, the mainstream product of deep ultraviolet LED characteristic wavelength is 275-280nm, 253.7nm and 275nm respectively on both sides of the DNA absorption peak wavelength of 265nm, with almost the same DNA absorption value, so it has almost the same sterilization efficiency.

Ultraviolet LED has the advantages of small size, low power consumption, that is, the point is bright, can be enclosed in a small space, ultraviolet leakage is easy to prevent and control, can achieve man-machine coexistence, and has obvious advantages in practical applications. With the advancement of ultraviolet LED technology, smaller, more powerful, non-toxic, longer life, more energy saving, and allow more switching times UVC LED become a new choice for sterilization light source.

222NM
This band is mentioned at the beginning of the article, and everyone is looking for 222nm sterilization LED for a time. Recently, researchers from several well-known foreign universities and institutions have found that ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 222nm cannot penetrate the stratum corneum of human skin, is harmless to the human body, and has the same bactericidal effect as traditional ultraviolet lamps, which has attracted market reports and attention. The actual situation is that this work is still in the laboratory research stage, and there is still a long way to go from industrial application. So, please calm down (don't waste your time looking).

405NM
The 405nm violet light (which can also be classified into the UVA range) has a certain bactericidal ability, and the researchers used a 405nm light source of 18150mW to irradiate E. coli at a distance of 50cm for 9 hours, obtaining a bactericidal efficiency of 99.9%. The sterilization efficiency of this method is low, the power of the required light source is high, and the heat dissipation is difficult, which greatly limits its wide application.
